Dear friends!
I am asking for your help and seeking for your action. We, here in Russia need your help in expending access to treatment. Hard to believe and many of you may not know that in Russia right now two essential medicines are not available for adults and children living with HIV.
This year bureaucrats from the Russian Ministry of Health didn’t bought lifesaving nevirapine suspension for children with HIV and therefore there is a risk of non-provision of the medicines to children.
Also, tenofovir, a first-line drug that many of you are taking for 10 years now, is not available for people with HIV in Russia. Still. Even though it was registered 2 years ago. Ministry of Health' bureaucrats refuse to include this medication into the list of essentials and therefore they are not buying it for PLWH in need.
We had written many letters. We had informed Russian media. We had protested on the streets. Now we need your help.
This year on 1st of December we are demanding from the MOH in Russia a non-interrupted access to ARV treatment and testing for PLWH including immediate purchases of nevirapine for children and tenofovir for adults. Please, support us!

On 2nd December please send two faxes with the letter attached (translation into English below).
First to Russian Minister of Health Tatyana Golikova
Second to the Head of the President’s Medvedev Administration’ mr. Naryshkin asking for immediate purchase of nevirapine and tenofovir.

Honorable Tatyana Alexeevna,
Due to the commemoration of the World AIDS Day on 1st of December we appeal to you to support the demands of our Russian friends and colleagues.
Today children and adults in Russia do not have access to essential HIV treatment. During 2011 there were no purchases of “nevirapine” medication for children, living with HIV. This medication also allows to reduce the risk of vertical HIV transmission.
Also, tens of thousands of our friends in Russia are in need of the medication named “tenofovir”, which is being used in the world for more then 10 years. It was registered in Russia more then 2 years ago, but still is not included into the list of essential medications. Therefore, Your Ministry does not purchase this medicine for people living with HIV in need of it.
We ask you to listen to our colleagues from Russia and immediately purchase "nevirapine" and "tenofovir" to provide people living with HIV in need with these medications.
