The International Treatment Preparedness Coalition is a worldwide movement of people united by a common goal – to achieve universal access to drugs to treat HIV and related diseases, especially tuberculosis and hepatitis C.
The Coalition was founded in March 2003. In 2005, the coalition began its work in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA), which includes the following countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Ukraine and Estonia.
The basic principle of the Coalition is to maximize the involvement of people living with HIV and their advocates in the decision-making processes that affect their lives – at the international, regional, national and local levels.
The three main areas of ITPC EECA work are:
- Mobilization: projects aimed at strengthening the community of patients and uniting in the fight for their right to universal access to treatment.
- Advocacy: projects aimed at improving policies, strategies, systems and models in the field of HIV and related diseases.
- Education: projects aimed at improving community knowledge about various aspects of the treatment of HIV and related diseases.
